OneNote for Windows 10- How to convert and solve Math equations?

OneNote is a computer program used for free-form information gathering as well as multi-user collaboration. It collects handwritten or typed notes, screen clippings, drawings and audio commentaries that can be shared with the among the OneNote users over the web. The application is available as a part of the Microsoft Office version and compatible with Windows 10. OneNote has several features and one of them is solving your complex math equations. To do so, follow the below mentioned steps:



  • Writing or Typing an Equation

 Open OneNote in your Windows 10 operating system
  1. Visit any page and click or tap the Draw tab
  2. Choose the pen you want to use
  3. Click on the small arrow available just next to the pen you have selected
  4. Now, select the stroke width required along with the ink color that you want to use
  5. Once done, do any of the followings:
    1. Use Stylus or your fingertip for writing the equation in case you are using a touchscreen device
    2. If you are using a PC with a standard monitor, simply write your equation using your mouse or pen input tablet, or use your keyboard to type your math equation
  • Choosing an Equation

Before OneNote provides you the solution of your equation, choose the ink strokes or typed texts that you want the OneNote to recognize
  1. Choose the Lasso Select tool available on the Draw tab
  2. Using your finger or mouse, drag a selection around the equation you have created in the first step
  3. Once you release the selection, all ink strokes or text in your equation should appear selected
  • Using the Math Button

After selecting the equation, do the following:
  1. Click on the Math button in the Draw tab
  2. In the Math pane, confirm or verify that OneNote is correctly recognizing your equation
  3. If required, choose Fix it and make the needed corrections
  4. In the Fix it mode, you can make the use of Lasso Select tool for choosing any incorrectly recognized symbol or a particular section of the equation
  5. OneNote will provide alternatives for you to select from
  6. If the equation preview is same as that of what you wrote, do the following:  
    1. Click the Select an Action box
    2. Select what action you want OneNote to apply on the equation
    3. You can select these actions from the drop-down menu available
    4. Review the solution
    5. If you want to know the steps OneNote has followed to provide you this solution, simply click Show Steps and then choose the particular part you want to view the details
